What happens if your host cancels
Understand your protections, refund options, and rebooking assistance when a host needs to cancel your trip before or during your reservation.
While rare, sometimes a host may need to cancel a booking due to unforeseen circumstances. If this happens, Ridee ensures you're protected and helps you get back on the road as quickly as possible.
Immediate notifications and next steps
If your host cancels your trip, whether before or shortly before pickup, you'll receive:
- An in-app notification and email alert confirming the cancellation
- A clear summary of your refund or rebooking options
Ridee will automatically begin processing your refund or help you rebook another vehicle right away.
Refund options
If your host cancels before your trip begins, you'll receive:
- A full refund of all charges (including trip fees and any extras)
- Refunds are issued to your original payment method, typically within 3–5 business days, depending on your bank
If you prefer, you can also choose to apply your refund as Ridee credit toward your next trip, ideal if you plan to rebook immediately.
Rebooking assistance
After a host cancellation, Ridee makes it easy to continue your plans:
- You'll see a Find a New Car button in your cancellation message
- Tap it to view similar cars nearby with matching dates and price ranges
- If prices are slightly higher, Ridee may offer discount credits to help offset the difference
Need personal help? Tap Contact Support to chat with a Ridee agent who can help rebook your trip manually.
Last-minute host cancellations
If your host cancels close to your pickup time (within 24 hours or less), Ridee treats this as a priority issue.
We'll:
- Help you rebook immediately with similar or better options
- Provide a Ridee credit for the inconvenience (subject to our Guest Rebooking Policy)
- Investigate the host's account to prevent repeated cancellations
During-trip cancellations (very rare)
If a host unexpectedly cancels after your trip has already begun, Ridee will step in right away:
- You'll receive assistance in returning the vehicle safely
- Ridee Support will coordinate a replacement car or offer a partial refund for unused trip days
- Our 24/7 customer care team will guide you through the entire process
Why hosts may cancel
Although hosts strive to honor every booking, cancellations can happen due to:
- Vehicle breakdowns or mechanical issues
- Unexpected emergencies (illness, travel conflicts, etc.)
- Policy violations or verification issues
- Safety or maintenance concerns
When a host cancels, Ridee holds them accountable under our Host Reliability Policy to keep guest experiences consistent and trustworthy.
Protecting your Ridee experience
Ridee tracks host performance closely and may apply penalties to hosts who cancel frequently.
Our goal is to ensure you can always book with confidence, knowing Ridee will support you if things don't go as planned.
